When should I book my newborn session?

Newborn, Family, Maternity Photographer, Newport RI

There’s a lot going on as you prepare to welcome a new baby into your family! All the lists for the hospital, and advice from every relative. You may be looking at your newborn right now and worried that you missed the window for newborn photography.

Don’t stress!

One of the reasons I love in home newborn sessions, or Lifestyle Newborn Sessions is that they give some wiggle room when it comes to scheduling.

In home newborn sessions can take place up to 2 months after birth.

In home lifestyle newborn sessions offer a level of flexibility posed studio sessions do not. I’m not expecting anything unnatural from newborns with my lifestyle sessions. No props or posed babies in buckets. Just newborns in their parents arms, relaxed, natural, comfortable. I firmly believe that your newborn is beautiful in their natural state, nothing else needed except for you!

schedule your newborn session for 1-2 weeks of age.

To make sure I have availability for your session I recommend scheduling your newborn session before baby is born. (This also gives us the opportunity to add a maternity session if you’d like!)

For first time mamas I recommend scheduling for 2 weeks after your due date (except in the case of scheduled induction). This gives baby some time to arrive, for you to get home, and feel a little settled in your new family structure.

While I recommend this 1-2 weeks of age time frame, we definitely have wiggle room. I’ve photographed “newborns” up until 2 months of age with beautiful results. If you need/want a little more time between birth and your session we can make that work.

What if my baby arrives early or we need extra hospital care?

If your newborn arrives early, and you need to stay in the hospital longer, we can be flexible. In those moments your job is to focus on your new baby. The flexibility of newborn sessions in your home gives us time to wait for baby to be ready.

The key with anything involving babies is flexibility. In home newborn sessions offer us just that! If you’re pregnant or your new baby has already arrived, there’s time to book your session.
